Contractor: Morgan Sindall
Client: Fire & Rescue
Type of works: Manufacture of Q-Mark Fire Doors, Glazed Side Screens & Internal Windows
Ahmarra manufactured over 150 Q-Mark certified fire doorsets and non-fire rated doorsets, for a newly developed fire station in the South East of England.
Designed by HLM Architects and constructed by Morgan Sindall, the purpose-built site was designed to optimise operational efficiency, whilst supporting staff training and welfare. The station houses a large bay for the fire engines, four-storey training tower, offices, meeting hubs, gym facilities, dormitories, rest areas, kitchens, shower, changing and locker rooms, as well as a laundry and reception area. Ahmarra manufactured a range of Q-Mark certified FD30s and FD60s fire & smoke rated doorsets and non-fire rated doorsets, as well as glazed side screens and internal windows for the new building.
Access Control
Access control was also an important requirement for the fire station. Doors throughout the circulation areas, as well as the restricted zones, are activated by a wall reader. By tapping an access card on a wall reader, the electric fail-secure lock releases, allowing the door to be opened with the lever handle. The wireway for the electric lock is discretely routered into the door frame for an aesthetically pleasing finish.
The double doors within circulation areas feature door selectors. The selectors ensure that secondary door leaf closes before the main primary leaf so that the automatic flush bolts engage.
Durability
Designed to withstand heavy footfall, these severe-duty doorsets are faced with impact-resistant high-pressure laminate and lipped on all four edges in solid American white oak for longevity. Doors also feature over-sized stainless steel kick plates to protect the door face.
Fire Door Design
These pre-hung doorsets were supplied with factory-fitted stainless steel ironmongery, ensuring full compliance.
Committed to sustainable working practices, Ahmarra are FSC® certified (FSC C018847), and therefore all of these timber doors and frames support responsible forestry. The doors are faced with Polyrey’s Chêne de Meymac (D018 FA) wood-effect laminate, that has built in anti-bacterial protection.
Where doors have vision panels, they feature American white oak cloak beading to match the exposed lippings.
