Part of a refurbishment project, the renovations focused on creating a comfortable and homely environment that prioritises wellbeing and promotes a sense of tranquility. Set in the countryside, the hospice’s new interior design fosters a connection with the natural environment that surrounds it. Organic tones and textures have been used throughout, and the building has been optimised to enhance the flow of natural light. Designed to complement this theme, the internal fire doors and frames feature the warm timber tones of American white oak crown cut, vertical grain wood veneer.

Ahmarra recently manufactured and installed Q-Mark certified fire doorsets for an NHS hospital’s new Endoscopy Unit. The new unit will provide additional treatment rooms and recovery areas, increasing capacity and reducing patient wait times. The Trust opted for doors with an enhanced fire and smoke rating of FD60s, providing critical time for staff to assist in the safe evacuation of patients in the event of a fire.

The new medical technology hub was designed by HLM Architects and constructed by Morgan Sindall. This characteristic is reflected in the design of the doors.

Certified under the Q-Mark Enhanced Security scheme, the internal apartment entrance doors are Secured By Design (SBD) approved and meet PAS 24: 2022 standards. Also certified under the Q-Mark Fire Door Manufacture scheme, they are FD30 fire rated to BS 476 Part 22.
Ahmarra were delighted to welcome back Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service, as well as Fire Safety Managers from the UK’s main contractors and Social Housing Regulation Officers from local councils, for another Fire Door CPD session in June. The well attended event provided an opportunity to learn more about how fire doors are specified, manufactured, tested, certified, installed and perform in a fire situation.

June 2022 marks five years since the Grenfell Tower fire in which 72 people tragically lost their lives. The incident was due to a catalogue of systemic errors and the inquiry that followed has shone a light on the much needed improvements required in fire safety legislation, products and strategies. As such, the Grenfell Tower Inquiry has led to changes in the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 for multiple occupancy residential buildings.

Ahmarra manufactured over 200 fire doors for Pears Building – the UCL Institute for Immunity and Transplantation medical research centre in London. Avi Contracts, who were sub-contracted by Willmott Dixon, selected us to manufacture the doorsets. Designed by Hopkins Architects, the building required a range of non fire-rated, fire-rated and acoustic-rated doorsets. The pre-hung doorsets were finished in Formica® Fog Grey and Storm Grey laminate, as well as American White Oak crown cut wood veneer facings, complimenting the centre’s modern interior design theme. All doors were supplied with factory-fitted stainless steel ironmongery.
Ahmarra’s new purpose-built fire door production facility, off Harts Farm Way in Havant, is nearing completion. Over 5 million pounds has been invested in the new manufacturing facility and its machinery, with the objective of producing engineered fire doorsets in an increasingly more efficient, consistent and environmentally friendly way.

The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon recently underwent an extensive refurbishment, and with local connections to the area, Ahmarra were pleased to part of the project. The Museum selected severe-duty doorsets, supplied with factory-fitted ironmongery, from our Education Range. Ahmarra are getting involved in Fire Door Safety Week 2019 - a national campaign that aims to increase the public's understanding of the crucial role that fire doors play in protecting lives and property. In support of the campaign, we will be running a series of safety training workshops for our team and hosting a special CPD session for architects that focuses on fire door safety within social housing.

The accreditation is a testament to our commitment to safe working practices, reducing our environmental impact and supporting our staff to develop the skills and knowledge required to become professional drivers.
Ahmarra recently learned of the very sad death of one of our skilled bench joiners, Les Adey, who had worked at our manufacturing facility for 30 years. Les will be a sorely missed friend and colleague. Many of our staff have paid tribute to him.

The doors have a rich American Black Walnut crown cut veneer and clear lacquer finish. But what really gives these hotel doors their unique aesthetic appeal is their mix of horizontal and vertical grains.

Ahmarra have recently invested in smoke testing for our certified fire doors at Warringtonfire test centre in High Wycombe, with excellent results.A number of smoke seal options were tested and achieved smoke leakage results as low as 1m3/m/hr leakage rate, which is well under the threshold of 3m3/m/hr.

Our trade organisation, ASDMA have issued an update on the Governments testing of the door industry post-Grenfell. It advises that there is no requirement to fire test on both sides of the door for timber doors as timber is currently tested on the most onerous side (opening into the furnace).
There seems to be much confusion recently re the use of assessments in fire door certification and Ahmarra would like to clarify our position and hopefully pass on our knowledge of the systems in place.
In 2017, the Ministry of Housing announced that FD30 composite fire doors manufactured by Manse Mastador failed essential safety tests. As a result, the ministry requested that UK fire door manufacturers have their products tested to ensure they comply with the mandatory legal safety standards. Ahmarra Door Solutions recently supplied sample timber fire doors for the Ministry of Housing test, which not only reached the required 30 minutes, but achieved a full 56 minutes!
