Client: Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service
Type of works: Fire Door CPD

Ahmarra recently hosted a Fire Door CPD session for members of Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service, Portsmouth City Council and Southampton City Council, with the support of Dormakaba and Fire Glass UK.

The event provided a valuable two-way learning opportunity, as well as a chance to build professional partnerships. Those who work within the fire service had the chance to discover more about how fire doors work, whilst enabling us to learn more about the issues they regularly come up against when assessing fire safety.

The well-attended event, held at the Holiday Inn in Farlington, kicked off with an informative presentation by our Business Development & Specification Manager, Martyn Fennell. Martyn discussed the critical elements that make up timber fire doors, fire door testing, third-party certification, the benefits of doorsets and installation best practices, whilst offering clarity on the specification process.

Dormakaba’s consultant Graham Hulland gave an excellent talk on fire door hardware. He delivered an insightful overview of door closers, swing devices, hinges, locks, signage, push pads and their performance requirements.

Fire Glass UK’s Branch Manager Gary Mahoney and Sales Representative Geoff Clarkson also gave a presentation on the specialist glass used for fire door vision panels and glazed screens. He provided a comprehensive outline of laminated & toughened glass classifications, as well as an explanation of how insulating glass reduces radiant heat levels and how to specify glass products.

After a light lunch, members of the fire service and councils had the opportunity to browse Dormakaba’s mobile showroom. Guests were able to view their comprehensive hardware range and seek expert advice on product features.

The event concluded with a tour of Ahmarra’s Portsmouth-based factory, led by Ian Martin, our Commercial Sales & Estimating Manager. Guests met our skilled craftsmen at work and learned more about the door manufacturing process first-hand.

The Ahmarra team would like to thank everyone who attended and took part in the event for making it such a success.
