Ahmarra’s standard fire doors are suitable for the majority of internal environments that have stable, climate-controlled conditions. However, in areas where there may be fluctuating humidity and temperature levels, your building may benefit from doors with enhanced hygrothermal performance.

What is Hygrothermal Performance?

Hygrothermal refers to how the combined effect of how moisture movement (hygro) and heat transfer (thermal) interact with the building’s structure i.e. its doors, walls and roof.

The hygrothermal impact is influenced by factors like seasonal climatics, as well as varying internal usage. For example, apartment buildings may house warm flats yet have cool corridors, or humid bathrooms yet dry riser/storage cupboards, creating moisture and heat pressure on the building’s fabric.

Through insulation effectiveness, moisture resistance and thermal efficiency, a building’s hygrothermal performance can be optimised, preventing issues like condensation, mould, and material decay, whilst helping to maintain a comfortable, consistent indoor climate.

Why Choose Hygrothermal Fire Doors?

Hygrothermal fire doors are designed to maintain their specified fire rating (i.e. FD30, 30 minutes fire resistance) whilst resisting distortion caused by fluctuating humidity (hygro) and temperature (thermo) between different environments.

The Benefits of Specifying Ahmarra’s Hygrothermal Fire Doors:

  • Structural Integrity: Maintains the dimensional stability of the door – no bowing or warping
  • Enhanced Durability: Withstands demanding environments
  • Reduced Maintenance Costs: Less requirement for repairs or adjustments, means
  • Maximised Lifespan: Your door lasts longer
  • Long-term Cost Efficiencies: Less requirement for repair or replacement
  • Improved Climatic Control: More consistent indoor climate
  • Confidence in Performance: Independently tested to meet the BS EN 12219:2000 Class 3 standard, as well as Q-Mark Timber Fire Door Manufacture certification
