Ahmarra Manufactures Over 200 Fire Doors for World-Leading Medical Research Facility
Contractor: Willmott Dixon
Client: UCL & Royal Free Charity
Type of works: Manufacture of Over 200 Fire Doorsets
Ahmarra Door Solutions manufactured over 200 severe-duty fire doors for Pears Building in London. The UCL Institute for Immunity and Transplantation is a world-leading medical research centre which, housed in The Pears Building, will advance the understanding of conditions like cancer and diabetes.
Designed by Hopkins Architects and constructed under main contractor, Wilmott Dixon, the building’s seven-storey structure includes two levels of patient accommodation which will enable people undergoing clinical trials to rest and recover there. Therefore, sound reduction was factored into the doorsets’ performance, with each door having an acoustic rating of up to 35RwdB.
Avi Contracts, who were sub-contracted by Willmott Dixon, selected Ahmarra to manufacture the doors having completed a variety of successful projects together in the past, including Wellington Health Centre and the Royal Veterinary College.
The centre required a range of non fire-rated, FD30 and FD60 doorsets. The pre-hung doorsets were finished in Formica® Fog Grey (F7961b) and Formica® Storm Grey (F7912) laminate, as well as American White Oak crown cut wood veneer facings. The project also included some pocket sliding doors. All doors were supplied with factory-fitted, fully-compatible, satin stainless steel ironmongery.
