Client: Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service
Type of works: Fire Door CPD
Ahmarra hosted another successful Fire Door CPD for the Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service, as well as various Councils and Building Surveyors with the support of Dormakaba and Pyroguard.
A valuable two-way learning opportunity for all involved, this well-attended event also provided us with a chance to build on professional partnerships. Members of the fire service were able to gain a deeper understanding of how fire doors are produced, tested and perform in a fire situation, and as one of the UK’s leading door fire manufacturers, it enabled us to learn more about the kind of issues the fire service regularly come up against.
Held at the Holiday Inn in Farlington, the CPD session began with an informative presentation by our Business Development & Specification Manager, Martyn Fennell. Martyn discussed insightful fire statistics, the difference between pre-hung doorsets and door assemblies, third-party testing & certification, the fire door installation process, and common issues whilst offering clarity on the specification process.
Dormakaba’s, Product Marketing Manager, Graham Hulland then gave a talk on the requirements for door hardware on fire doors. He provided an outline of CE Marking, Approved Document B and British Standards compliance, as well as an overview of their Certifire approved door closers, hold open & free swing devices, hinges, locks, signage and panic hardware.
Pyroguard’s Key Account Manager, Dan Denton, also provided a comprehensive presentation on the fire resistant glass used for fire door vision panels and glazed screens. He covered the classifications and types of glass, as well as how to correctly specify glass. He also showed a test video of a fully engulfed room which demonstrated just how much difference certified fire glass can make in an emergency situation and how much difference, partially and fully insulated glazing can make.
After lunch, the fire service team browsed Dormakaba’s mobile showroom. Guests were able to view the range of hardware, whilst Dormakaba’s staff were on hand to offer advice on products’ comparative features and benefits.
The event concluded with a tour of Ahmarra’s Portsmouth-based manufacturing facility, led by Ian Martin, our Commercial Sales & Estimating Manager and Jack Brewer, our Project Manager. Guests learned more about the door manufacturing process and met our skilled craftsmen at work.
The Ahmarra team would like to thank everyone who attended and took part in the event for making it such a success.
