Contractor: Balfour Beatty
Type of works: Supply internal doorsets and screens
Ahmarra Door Solutions have completed orders for two state-of-the art senior schools, Midhurst Rother College and Shoreham Academy. These schools were built by Balfour Beatty as part of their £120 million contract to build schools for West Sussex County Council.
Ahmarra’s range of high performance, timber doorsets and glazed screens from our Education Range were selected for these projects. Incorporating BM TRADA Q-Mark Fire Door Manufacture certified FD30 and FD60 fire doors and up to 45 RwdB acoustic rated screens. Ahmarra is committed to sustainable working practices and is FSC® certified (FSC C018847), which means all of these timber doors and frames support responsible forestry.
The doors were finished in Formica Storm Grey high pressure laminate and American white oak veneer. The Storm Grey high pressure laminate is complemented with exposed oak lippings, frames, architraves and glazing bead for circulation doors. Whilst contrasting crown cut, American white oak service and store room doors, act as a way finding feature for students and teachers.
As the college and academy are mainly in use during daylight hours, the screens allow natural light to flood internal spaces, which improves productivity in the classroom. In addition to improving learning skills and educational achievement, exposure to natural light improves overall health.
