Fire Door Signage
Fire doors play a vital part in any building’s passive fire protection system. Along with fire-resisting walls, ceilings and flooring, internal fire doors help to ensure that if a fire should break out, that it is compartmentalised. By preventing the fire and smoke from spreading, fire doors provide a protected route of passage for occupants to evacuate the building, whilst providing some protection for firefighters entering the building.
The three main types of internal fire doors can be identified as;
It is a legal requirement that all of these fire door types display a blue safety sign at eye level, which gives clear instruction on how the door must be used in order to comply with fire regulations.
What is a Fire Door Keep Locked Sign For?
All fire doors without a closing device must be kept locked, and therefore, feature a ‘Fire Door Keep Locked’ sign on both sides. The only exception would be if the space behind the door was too small – for example, fire rated doors on a small riser cupboard would only require a ‘Fire Door Keep Locked’ sign on the outside of the cupboard.
Keep locked doors are commonly used for secure storage spaces, cleaner cupboards, service ducts or any other room which is used to store expensive or hazardous materials.
